Definition
Organization created to serve a purpose other than the generation of profit (for distribution among stockholders) and usually given a tax exempt status. Also called not for profit corporation. Non-Profit organizations can be created to raise money, obtain private and government grants, and ability to operate under special tax exemptions. Non-Profit organizations require in depth accounting and record keeping.
